The big red banana plant (Ensete) to be part of demo day. Red Banana Plant, Red Banana Tree

After it has been growing for six to eight months, leave one sucker (small shoot at the base of the stem). This plant will replace the main stem in the next growing season. After the fruit is removed, cut the main stem down to 2.5 feet. Remove the rest of the stem in a few weeks, leaving the replacement sucker intact.. Step 8: Overwinter in Garage. Overwinter your Abyssinian red banana in a garage or storeroom if you do not have a greenhouse. Cut off all the leaves, leaving about 5 feet of stem, and clean the roots. Leave the stem to dry for a day and them wrap in breathable packing material and store upright in a cool, dark place.

Another rich red variety is Musa 'Red Iholene' — the leaf underside and stem are crimson, and, in this case, the fruit is tasty. Some cultivars boast green leaves shot through with ruby — called variegation. The popular Musa acuminata 'Zebrina' is known, albeit a little eerily, as the blood banana due to the splashes of blue-red on its leaves.. A stunning palm-like plant with huge, broad leaves that fan out from a single trunk. Bold-colored foliage has wine-red and bronze tones with prominent venation. A popular choice for tropical-inspired gardens. Perfect for large patio containers. Evergreen in frost-free climates. Light. Full sun, Partial sun. Watering.
